My Birthplace and Other Stories

The Lontar Foundation

Sunlie invites the reader into sometimes, quite a surreal microcosm of his Chinese-Indonesian heritage and identity. This is a collection of short stories that is very culturally and historically multifaceted and describes witty accounts of people and ghost-spirits within a local community, exploring colonial, animistic and traditional traits of the places that he has created.

Sunlie Thomas Alexander (Author)

Sunlie Thomas Alexander is a short-story writer, essayist, poet, literary critic and football commentator, born in 1977 in Bangka. He graduated in Theology-Philosophy at the Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University, Yogyakarta and has been an artist in residence at Taiwan, 2016 and the Netherlands, 2018. His Chinese ancestry and origin is prominently embedded and explored within his works.
