Made in Japan

Stories of Japanese-Filipino Children

Edited by Rey Ventura
Ateneo De Manila, Ateneo De Manila Univ Press

The sixteen personal essays in this collection are expressions of undying hope, consisting of diverse, moving emotions and spontaneous, deeply honest reflections. Inspired by faith and powered by filial love, the young Japanese-Filipino writers recount their journeys and struggles without the burden of anger or bitterness. These essays are testaments to the triumph of the human spirit.

Rey Ventura was born in Jones, Isabela, Philippines and has lived in Japan since 2001. His first book, Underground in Japan, was first published by Jonathan Cape in 1992 and was translated into French and Japanese. The sequel, Into the Country of Standing Men, was published by the Ateneo Press in 2007 and received the Global Filipino Literary Award for Non-Fiction in 2008.
