Job Posting: Project Development Manager, Digital Books in Indigenous Studies

UBC Press and the University of Washington Press are developing a digital platform for multimedia books in Indigenous studies. Based on Scalar, an authoring and publishing platform, it will offer a suite of tools for linking data and analyses to digital content from around the world and for interacting in culturally sensitive ways with heritage materials. It will also provide authoring teams with customizable methods to label content and inform readers about cultural protocols for access and use of specific content.

We seek a Project Development Manager to oversee the planning and management of the project. This two-year term position is based at the University of British Columbia (UBC), in the beautiful West Coast city of Vancouver. (Just steps away from an ice cream shop and a nude beach).

Major responsibilities include: establishing and maintaining a project plan, including calendar and appropriate progress benchmarks; coordinating the activities of the project’s digital developmental editor, authoring teams, web designer, software developers, and consultants; documenting procedures and guidelines for collaborative multi-path publishing; managing the project budget; planning and preparing a series of workshops and Advisory Board meetings; developing an author training kit; and providing draft reports on the status of the project.

This job will interest candidates from diverse professional and educational backgrounds, including but not limited to: those who have worked in publishing or scholarly communications, pursued a career in library & information sciences, or managed multimedia cultural heritage projects.
