Suing for Silence: Defamation and the #MeToo Backlash

Monday, March 11, 2024 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Western University

LISA - Legal Information for Sexual Assault at Western University is pleased to present the London launch of Mandi Gray's book Suing for Silence: Sexual Violence and Defamation (Available March 1, 2024) at Western University (location will be provided via email following registration).

This event is free to attend.

We would appreciate RSVP to ensure we have enough food. We will be accepting cash donations at the event to help support LISA.

The arrival of the #MeToo movement was long overdue, putting sexual violence in the spotlight and opening up public discussion of the problem. It also sparked a global anti-feminist backlash. In Suing for Silence, Mandi Gray critically examines how abusive men use defamation lawsuits as a weapon against anyone who attempts to hold them accountable. Mandi will be joined by sexual abuse lawyer, Anju Fujioka.

There will be an opportunity for audience Q&A and a meet and greet with the author. Light refreshments will be served. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Moderator: Chanèle Rioux-McCormick, lawyer, McKenzie Lake & LISA co-founder

Speakers: Dr. Mandi Gray (Trent University), assistant professor & anti-violence activist. Anju Fujioka, sexual assault lawyer, & LISA supervising lawyer.

RSVP to the event for your chance to win a free signed copy of the book!
