Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2018

Blood, Sweat and Fear: Violence At Work in the North American Auto Industry 1960-1980 by Jeremy  Milloy won the 2018 Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot Award (English) from the Society of Automotive Historians.

From the Society:

"The historian’s craft is a difficult one, requiring meticulous research, substantial analysis, broad context and engaging prose. Automotive history presents special challenges . It must capture the hearts and minds of enthusiasts without becoming merely nostalgic, while presenting explanatory contexts that link it to broad social and political themes.

Jeremy Milloy’s book, Blood, Sweat and Fear: Violence At Work in the North American Auto Industry 1960-1980 (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2017) accomplishes all this, earning it the Society of Automotive Historians' Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot Award (English-language) for 2018. Professor Milloy’s work sets an exemplary standard for others in the field."
