All Trails Lead to Santa Fe

Guide and Map for Three National Historic Trails Connecting Santa Fe to the Rest of the World

University of New Mexico Press, High Desert Field Guides

This guide, created for the Three Trails Conference of 2015, tells the history of the El Camino Real, the Santa Fe Trail, and the Old Spanish Trail as they traced their paths across the state of New Mexico. Each trail includes ten sites the reader can drive to. In addition to telling the story of the three trails, the guide provides a state map with a blow-up detail of the Santa Fe area and pinpoint sites to visit.

These maps are gorgeous, intelligently narrated guides to the area's natural and cultural draws. . . . It's that almost granular level of specificity that makes these maps amazing roadside companions.'--Santa Fe New Mexican

The 2015 Three Trails Conference committee is made up of representatives of the three organizations: the Santa Fe Trail Association, the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Trail Association, and the Old Spanish Trail Association. The three organizations provided content and photographs for the guide and map. Kathryn Huelster, author of Dance Ceremonies of the Northern Rio Grande Pueblos, has studied the peoples of the Southwest and Native Americans. She is a former docent at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis. She now lives in Santa Fe with her husband, Dick. Dick Huelster has happily pursued his love of archaeology by doing extensive examinations of sites, surveying, and mapping for the Office of Archeological Studies. He and his wife, Kathryn, live in Santa Fe, NM.
